AUGUSTA, Ga () – A local group of male mentors honored area middle school boys with a special ceremony today.

The Alpha Mu Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity held a celebration of erudition for boys in its Project BBUILD.

The fraternity is the oldest African American Greek letter organization.

For 18 years, the local chapter has supported Project BBUILD, a program offering weekly mentoring, tutoring, and enrichment for boys in grades 6 through 8.

During the school year, each Saturday morning, Project BBUILD holds focus sessions on a range of topics, helping the boys to hone public speaking and life skills, along with guidance on managing conflicts and coping with everyday stress.

The boys are also provided opportunities like serving as a Page at the Georgia State Capitol for Alpha Mu Boule member Representative Brian Prince.

The students also get assistance in subjects of Math and Language Arts provided by area teachers.

Five of the participants graduate from the program during the event held at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta.

The speaker was Melissa Speight who is an HR Manager at the Starbucks Augusta Soluble and Roasted Coffee Plant.

She provided five nuggets of wisdom for the boys.

Also, Alpha Mu Boule members honored Dr. Ronald Brown, Senior who founded and continues to lead Project BBUILD.

Melissa Speight surprised the boys by giving them Starbucks gift cards, each accompanied by a meaningful message intended to inspire and direct them towards successful, positive futures.
