VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A sense of relief has permeated DeLand as the Volusia Sheriff’s Office confirmed the safe recovery of a 1-year-old girl, following a missing child alert that had the community on edge.
The alert, concerning little Itzayana Gonzalez, was initially issued late last year after she was last seen near the 390 block of Circle Drive. Her disappearance had prompted widespread concern across the area.
Authorities had suspected that the child’s parents, Doranalleli Gonzalez, 24, and Jose Campo, 27, were evading a court order from the Department of Children and Families (DCF), which sought to gain custody of the young girl.
In a significant development, detectives on Friday disclosed information suggesting that Doranalleli Gonzalez was attempting to flee to Mexico. This revelation was crucial in the search efforts.
Acting on this lead, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office sought the assistance of the U.S. Marshals. Their swift action led to the successful location of Doranalleli Gonzalez and her daughter Itzayana at the U.S.-Mexico border, as per the official statement from the sheriff’s office.
The statement further detailed, “Gonzalez was arrested on her warrant, and Itzayana was taken into the custody of Child Protective Services.” The case is linked to allegations of potential child abuse, underscoring the urgency and complexity of the situation.
That said, Jose Campo has still not been taken into custody, and his exact whereabouts are unknown, deputies added.
No additional information has been provided at this time.
