HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A tragic accident in Hernando County claimed the life of a 42-year-old man from Webster who was riding a motorcycle, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol on Saturday evening.
The crash occurred around 7 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Whispering Oaks Boulevard, troopers said.
Based on a preliminary crash report by FHP, the Webster resident was traveling on a motorcycle heading south on U.S. 301, nearing Whispering Oaks Boulevard, while two SUVs were moving north on U.S. 301 in the left turn lane.
The leading SUV attempted a left turn onto Whispering Oaks Boulevard and crossed directly into the path of the motorcyclist, according to the report. The motorcyclist collided with the SUV and was thrown off, subsequently hitting the second SUV in the turn lane, as described by the troopers.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to FHP.
Troopers reported that neither of the other drivers involved — a 66-year-old Dade City man, who was in the SUV struck by the motorcycle, and a 44-year-old woman from Ridge Manor, driving the other SUV — sustained injuries from the incident.
