VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A fatal crash occurred late Saturday on State Road 40 in Volusia County, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist and critically injuring two ATV riders, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 11:50 p.m., west of S.R. 40’s intersection with Pine Woods Road, troopers said.
The FHP crash report indicates that the motorcyclist, a 35-year-old man from Ormond Beach, was heading east on S.R. 40. Meanwhile, an ATV driven by a 28-year-old woman from Ormond Beach, with another 22-year-old Ormond Beach woman as a passenger, was moving west along the eastbound right grass shoulder. The ATV veered into the motorcycle’s path, resulting in a head-on collision, the report details.
According to FHP, the motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene, while the women sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. It appears the man was the only individual involved in the crash who was wearing a helmet.
FHP is still investigating.
