ORLANDO, Fla. – An overnight confrontation near Church Street and Orange Avenue ended when a gun discharged accidentally, leaving a woman hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to Orlando police.
Officers responded to the area at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports that shots had been fired.
Investigators said they later determined the incident began as a fight involving two separate groups.
During the altercation, police said a girl was punched, prompting her brother to use a gun to strike the person accused of hitting her.
The firearm then went off by accident, police said, and the round struck his sister in the foot.
She was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries police described as non-life-threatening.
All of the people involved were detained, then released following the preliminary phase of the investigation.
Police said a decision on whether to pursue charges will be made once the full investigation has been completed.
No names were released.
