ORLANDO, Fla. – This Wednesday, city officials in Orlando conducted a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the beginning of renovations for several green areas in the College Park neighborhood.
Planned improvements coming to Albert Park include a new pavilion with a stage, updated landscaping and lighting, new seating and a viewing area.

To make room for these changes, an iconic oak tree, that fell during a storm in 2020, was removed.
City leaders said the tree was encroaching on the sidewalk and it would cost about $200,000 to try to relocate it.
In an effort to preserve the legacy of the historic oak tree, the city distributed 50 oak seedlings from Albert Park, which were cultivated from the tree’s acorns.
The city plans to give out 50 more seedlings at a ribbon-cutting event when the park reopens, which is expected to happen by the end of 2025.
