OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Osceola County is set to bolster its network of red-light cameras, planning to introduce several new systems by year’s end. This move aims to expand an already robust network of automated enforcement devices predominantly situated in Central Florida.

Gary Yeager, who oversees Traffic Operations in Osceola County, has highlighted some of the upcoming camera locations. These include intersections at Narcoosee Road and Jack Brack Road, County Road 192 and Cross Prairie Drive, and Poinciana Boulevard at Oren Brown Avenue. The selection of these sites is a collaborative effort with the sheriff’s office, focusing on intersections notorious for high ticket issuance.

“We collaborate with the sheriff’s office to pinpoint intersections where the most tickets are being issued,” Yeager emphasized, explaining the strategy behind the camera placements.

Currently, Florida is home to red-light cameras at 167 intersections, and a significant portion of these is in Central Florida. While county officials argue that these cameras serve as a deterrent against speeding and contribute to revenue, their impact on enhancing overall safety remains debatable, as suggested by state crash data.

According to recent figures from the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FHSMV) for 2024, there were 17,903 crashes at monitored locations prior to camera installation, which increased to 18,615 post-installation. This data reveals a rise in reported collisions despite the implementation of the cameras.

Nonetheless, Yeager maintains that the enforcement through these cameras effectively discourages speeding and running red lights, citing successful outcomes for the county. The most recent fiscal year saw ticketing revenue reach approximately $511,000, with around half of this amount forwarded to the state and the rest retained by the county.

“The people who are violating the speed limit are going through the red lights. They’re the ones paying for this,” Yeager said. “They fund it. ”

Osceola County officials said the new cameras will be operational by year’s end, and that the sheriff’s office will continue to provide input on enforcement priorities as the program expands.

Some cameras will be at new locations, while others will be relocated due to construction projects.

Here is the list of where all the cameras will be shortly:
