ATLANTA (WRBL) — More than 300 Delta contractors at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport will be laid off by Sept. 30.

Unifi Aviation, a contractor working with Delta Airlines, recently submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) to inform employees about upcoming large-scale layoffs, as required by law. Delta representatives explained that this notice is primarily a legal requirement and doesn’t necessarily mean that jobs will be lost.

The layoffs are a part of their expansion plan with catering and facility management company Newrest, officials say.

Delta Airlines shared the following statement with WRBL News3:

“Delta is shifting our Atlanta commissary services from Unifi to Newrest. We are collaborating with both companies to ensure a smooth transition for both customers and employees. Even though the management of these services will be transferred to Newrest, all employees from Unifi have been offered the chance to move to the Newrest team.”

A Delta spokesperson says employees of Unifi were notified of the transition beforehand.

The Unifi company provides the operations that prepare and supply aircraft with catering and other onboard amenities.

The roles that are likely to be affected include assembly agents, business analysts, commissary agents, driving commissary operations dispatchers, agent duty managers, and general managers.
