DENVER (KDVR) Sunday’s weather in Colorado was far from quiet: Two-inch diameter hail, 70 mph wind gusts and at least three tornadoes were tracked by storm spotters throughout the afternoon.
On Monday, residents began clean-up efforts in earnest, and affiliate KDVR got its first look at the severe and widespread tornado damage.
SkyFOX flew over the town of Bennett and captured images of blown-out barns, roofs that were stripped of shingles and RVs turned over by the force of the storm.
KDVR photojournalists captured images of a solar farm near Bennett that showed the path of the tornado. No injuries were reported from the storm, but the Elbert County Board of County Commissioners declared a local emergency on Monday to help funnel funds and aid into the area.
As of Monday evening, power was restored to residents in the area, but CORE Electric Cooperative told KDVR’s Kasia Kerridge on Monday morning that repairs were still needed and will likely last a couple of days.
