GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — One person is dead after a crash on West Andrew Johnson Highway in Mosheim on Monday.

Per a crash report from the Mosheim Police Department (MPD), officers were dispatched to a crash with entrapment at West Andrew Johnson Highway/Turning Hill Road shortly after 7 a.m.

Upon their arrival, a semi-truck driver informed police that he had slowed down due to a vehicle turning in front of him. While stopped, a Toyota RAV4 collided with the rear of the truck, as noted in the report.

An investigation reportedly found no skid marks to show the brakes had been applied.

“It is believed that the victim was distracted and when she redirected her attention to the highway, there was insufficient room for correction to prevent the collision,” the MPD noted in the report. “It is believed that the victim attempted to switch from the left lane to the right lane to avoid the collision.”

The driver of the Toyota, identified by police as Lisa Coffey, died at the scene.

“Due to the amount of damage sustained to the vehicle, it is strongly believed that speed played a factor in this crash,” the report stated.
