WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The remains of U.S. Army Captain Cody Khork, a 35-year-old native of Polk County, are scheduled to return home this Wednesday.
As per a social media update, Capt. Khork’s arrival is anticipated at the Lakeland Linder International Airport shortly after 1 p.m.
Upon arrival, Capt. Khork will be accompanied by an escort to the Oak Ridge Funeral Home in Winter Haven. This journey from the airport is expected to take approximately two hours.
Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Defense reported that Capt. Khork, along with five other service members, lost their lives in Kuwait due to what was described as an “unmanned aircraft system attack.”
The group was actively participating in Operation Epic Fury at the time of the incident.
Those who knew Capt. Khork remember him as a beloved friend, devoted son, and an inspiring leader.
The U.S. Department of Defense announced earlier this month that Khork and five others were killed in Kuwait. The Department of Defense says it happened during an “unmanned aircraft system attack.”
The soldiers were supporting Operation Epic Fury.
Friends of Capt. Khork called him his best friend, son, and true leader.
News 6’s Tylisa Hampton talked to one of those friends, who told her Khork was more than a soldier.
“He was a true leader. He was a true commander,” said Khork’s friend, Winfred Lee Ross. “My brother has turned into a real superhero in my eyes, and at the end of the day, my heart will always fly half-staff for him.”
