If you’re feeling lucky, now might be the time to try your luck at the Powerball before Saturday evening, as one of the biggest jackpots in U.S. history is on the line.

The jackpot has surged to a $1 billion prize. It’s the sixth-largest prize in the game’s history.

According to the Florida Lottery, the Sunshine State has had more Powerball winners than any other state.

“Every Powerball ticket bought in Florida provides a chance for a major win, but importantly, it also supports the educational aspirations of students throughout our state,” stated Florida Lottery Secretary John F. Davis. “Occasions like these highlight the immense enthusiasm players have for the game and the significant impact their participation has on Florida’s Bright Future Scholarship beneficiaries.”

The last Powerball jackpot claimed in Florida was $214.9 million on May 6, 2024, the Florida Lottery said.

A Florida winner was included in the world-record $1.586 billion jackpot in January 2016, with winners also in California and Tennessee.

“This record-breaking streak has led to unprecedented sales, with Floridians purchasing over 7,000 Powerball tickets each minute in anticipation of the historic draw. This remarkable participation has generated excitement statewide and significant educational funding, with the Miami district topping all regions in Powerball sales during this jackpot period,” noted the Florida Lottery.

If you are interested in playing, tickets cost $2. Tickets must be purchased by 10 p.m. ET on the night of the drawing.
