Champaign shooting results in property damage

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A shooting in Champaign Thursday evening resulted in damage to one house and two vehicles.

The Champaign Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Mimosa Drive at 7:06 p.m. in response to a report of gunshots. Upon arrival, they discovered property damage involving one house and two vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries were noted at the scene.

“I just heard gunshots, and I instantly ran for the kids, telling everybody to get in the house. Any time gunshots go off, it’s terrifying,” said Johnathan Buchanan. “We don’t want anybody to get hurt. We want everyone to be safe every day. Violence has no place in our neighborhoods.”

At least six Champaign Police vehicles were present, and the department is currently continuing its investigation. They urge anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 217-351-4545.
