'Reality Hit Hard: Family Rebuilds After Seminole County Fire'

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Tragedy struck during what was supposed to be the happiest weekend of Bryce and Morgan Magee’s life when a house fire broke out at Bryce’s parents’ mobile home in Geneva last week.

“It just flipped me and my family’s world upside down,” Bryce Magee said, reflecting on the moment everything changed.

The fire happened early on the morning of June 14, just one day before the couple’s wedding.

Seminole County Fire Department responded around 6:12 a.m. Bryce Magee recalled how a family friend who lived at the front of the home with his girlfriend woke up and saw the blaze.

“He, without a second thought, ran through the fire to the back room and woke my parents up,” Bryce Magee said. “There my dad and Charles made a human shield around my mom and walked her out of the fire.”

Bryce Magee’s mother, who is disabled, only suffered severe smoke inhalation and minor injuries and was released from the hospital the same day.

However, his father James and their friend Charles suffered second and third-degree burns on half of their bodies, including their faces, backs, and arms.

“They were heavily sedated, and in a medical coma,” Bryce Magee said. “Definitely reality smacked us. We saw his dad. We cried a lot and prayed over him and just stuck by his side.”

Despite the trauma, Bryce and Morgan Magee decided to go through with their wedding the next day after learning that both men were awake and in stable condition.

“For something like that to happen the day before your wedding—what was going through your head?” Bryce Magee was asked. He replied, “More than words can say, to be honest. We were thinking about canceling the wedding.”

Now, the couple says both men are off ventilators and continuing to make progress.

They’re hoping to raise money to help provide a new home for the two men once they’re released from the hospital.

“So when these two gentlemen get out of the hospital, then they have a roof over their heads,” said Morgan Magee.

The couple believes an electrical issue may have caused the blaze. Seminole County officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the family which can be found by clicking here.
