Soulja Boy arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of weapons charge

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested early Sunday in Los Angeles after police say they found a firearm during a traffic stop.

As reported by the LAPD, officers conducted a vehicle stop around 2:35 a.m. near the intersection of Melrose Avenue and North Genesee Avenue. DeAndre Cortez Way, famously known as Soulja Boy, was among the passengers and was detained under suspicions of being a convicted felon found with a firearm.

The police have not disclosed what led to the traffic stop or the identities of others who were in the car. Further details regarding the firearm are currently unavailable.

According to the sheriff department’s inmate records, he was incarcerated at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division shortly after 6 a.m.

Soulja Boy, aged 35, gained fame with his 2007 hit single “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” and is also known for popular songs such as “Turn My Swag On” and “Kiss Me thru the Phone.”

He’s also made headlines in recent months for legal troubles. In April, a jury ordered him to pay $4 million in a sexual battery case.
