Soulja Boy arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of weapons charge

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested early Sunday in Los Angeles after police say they found a firearm during a traffic stop.

Officers pulled over a vehicle around 2:35 a.m. near Melrose Avenue and North Genesee Avenue. One of the passengers, identified as DeAndre Cortez Way better known as the “Crank That” rapper Soulja Boy was arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, according to the LAPD.

Police did not say what prompted the stop or who else may have been in the vehicle. Additional information about the firearm was not immediately available.

He was booked into jail in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division a little after 6 a.m., according to the sheriff department’s inmate database.

Soulja Boy, 35, is best known for his 2007 breakout hit “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” and other tracks like “Turn My Swag On” and “Kiss Me thru the Phone.”
