At least 11 hurt in South Carolina beach town shooting

LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (AP) — At least 11 people were taken to hospitals after a shooting Sunday night in a South Carolina beach town, authorities said.

The Horry County Police have yet to disclose the conditions of those injured or provide specifics on the nature of their injuries following an incident that took place around 9:30 p.m. in Little River.

Investigators were getting reports of more people arriving at the hospital in private vehicles, Horry County Police said on social media.

Approximately 90 minutes post-incident, police described it as an isolated event, assuring that there is no threat to the community. However, they have not shared any details regarding potential suspects or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.

The shooting happened around a boat dock near the Intracoastal Waterway.

Video from the scene showed dozens of police cars and ambulances rushing in and out of the area.

In a separate event, a police officer from North Myrtle Beach, while responding to the shooting, accidentally discharged his weapon, resulting in a self-inflicted leg injury at a marina situated roughly 3 miles (5 kilometers) away. According to North Myrtle Beach spokeswoman Lauren Jessie, the officer is currently hospitalized and in stable condition.

Little River is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Myrtle Beach.
