JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — The speed limit on a section of Boones Creek Road in Jonesborough has increased from 30 to 45 miles per hour.

The speed limit was increased on the one-mile section of road heading north from the town limits.

Mayor Kelly Wolfe mentioned earlier this month that lowering the speed limit last year resulted in a drop in the number of crashes. Public safety leaders believe that finding a balance could maintain safety along the corridor while simultaneously enhancing traffic movement.

Town leaders say a new traffic circle around Parsons Circle will help.
