CHATHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — A particularly “nutty” animal was determined to remain inside a homeowner’s garage until Chatham Police managed to coax it back into the wild.

On Friday, the Chatham Police Department shared a video on Facebook detailing a dispatched call to a residence on Church Street. The caller reported an animal inside his garage and sought assistance from the department to remove it.

Upon arrival, officers found a squirrel that was quite reluctant to leave the garage. After a two-minute endeavor, during which the squirrel even attempted to enter the house, the officers successfully guided the animal outside and shared a hearty laugh with the homeowner.

“Our job is often so serious that we love to share stories showing you the lighter side of police work,” the department said in its post. “PS – For those keeping score at home, that would be CPD 1, Squirrels 0!!”
