Storm Team 3: Spotty showers possible Friday, mainly dry weekend

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Thursday afternoon brought partly cloudy skies and warm, humid conditions. Although the clouds appeared dark at times later in the day, no showers emerged in our area.

However, changes are anticipated for Friday, with the possibility of a few scattered showers. Despite this, the weather will generally remain mostly dry and warm over the coming days.

Friday will begin with mostly clear skies after sunset, with temperatures in the 60s inland and lower 70s along the coast. By the afternoon, temperatures are expected to rise into the mid to upper 80s.

Some inland locations may get very close to 90°F. A few isolated showers are possible in the afternoon and into the early evening.

While most areas will likely miss any rainfall, there is a better chance for showers along I-95. The evening should be pleasant, providing great weather for local high school football games.

A very warm and mainly dry pattern is expected to settle in for the weekend and into early next week, with afternoon highs reaching the mid to upper 80s each day.

Rain chances will begin to emerge in the forecast for the latter part of next week. However, rain chances will remain around 20% or less.

As the week progresses, temperatures will gradually climb higher, despite potential showers developing. Highs are projected to reach the upper 80s to lower 90s from Monday through Friday.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave that is about to emerge off of the west coast of Africa. Once it is over the Atlantic Ocean within the next day or so, it may possibly become better organized.

It has a low (30%) chance of becoming the season’s next tropical depression or tropical storm within the next 5 to 7 days.

The environment it will be in is expected to support slow organization and strengthening. There is no threat to land or the U.S. at this time.

There is also an area disorganized cloudiness over the western Caribbean Sea located just west of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.

Some global model guidance indicates that this may be an area to watch for potential development once over the southern Gulf next week.

The only issue in the short-term will be heavy tropical rain for the Yucatan over the next few days. There is no tropical threat from this area right now.
