Storm Team 3: Tracking more storms, potential tropical development

Tuesday afternoon in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry saw relatively mild weather. A mix of clouds and sporadic showers, as well as thunderstorms, helped to maintain temperatures a bit below average, ranging from the upper 80s to the lower 90s.

The average high temperature for Savannah through July is 92°- 93°F, peaking in the middle of the month.

A LOOK AHEAD

Expect more scattered showers and thunderstorms on both Wednesday and Thursday. The likelihood of storms will increase after midday and persist into the early evening hours on both days.

On Wednesday, afternoon temperatures will hover in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Even though the chance of storms will remain high on Thursday, the weather will be slightly warmer.

Rain and storm chances will back off a little bit for Independence Day on Friday and into Saturday. Afternoon highs on Friday will be hotter with highs in the low to mid 90s with feels like temperatures in the upper 90s.

Temperatures Saturday will be back into the lower 90s for most locations with a mainly dry afternoon. Sunday’s storm chances will be slightly higher than Saturday. Highs again will be in the lower 90s.

The new workweek will start off with a few showers and storms on Monday. A drier pattern is expected to set up for Tuesday and Wednesday and that will help temperatures to warm into the mid 90s for most locations.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

The chances for an area of disorganized cloudiness in the northern Gulf are increasing. This system now has a medium chance (40%) of becoming the season’s next tropical depression or tropical storm.

It is forecast to gradually cross over Florida and into the western Atlantic over the next few days. The main concern regardless of development will be heavy rain across Florida.

Most of the moisture at this point should stay far enough from the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry that there will not be any excessive rainfall from it.
