The 4th Annual Tampa Bay Black Authors Expo is making a return this weekend! The event will embrace this year’s theme of “Keeping Black Lit Alive” as 23 authors participate in showcasing their works, highlighting Black voices and narratives.
Joining us on this episode of Rooted in Progress is one of the featured guests for the event, poet Troy Legette.
Recently, Legette received the esteemed Literary Titan Book Award. His goal is to motivate budding Black writers, particularly those who encounter obstacles in entering the literary field.
The inception of the expo arose from the necessity for greater representation within literary avenues. The emphasis of this year’s theme is on safeguarding Black narratives amidst the rising occurrence of book bans and efforts to alter historical accounts. The event will also feature a tribute to the late Gwen Henderson, whose bookstore was essential to Black literature in the Tampa Bay area.
Tune in at 9:30 this morning to learn how you can attend the event!
