KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday night in Kingsport, as per a release from the bureau.

TBI said the shooting took place around 8:30 p.m. Monday night at the Crockett Ridge Golf Course, which is located along L Jack Private Drive.

The release indicated that an initial investigation revealed officers were responding to a call at the golf course following a report of a man with a handgun threatening to harm himself.

TBI said officers attempted negotiations upon arrival, but were unsuccessful.

At some point the encounter reportedly escalated, leading to the man and an officer firing shots at each other.

TBI said the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and that no officers were injured in the shooting.

The investigation is still active, according to the TBI.
