Camilla delights royal fans as she tries to get Charles's attention

Queen Camilla charmed royal enthusiasts yesterday during a visit to Cornwall, where she made an earnest attempt to catch King Charles’s attention, sparking delight among onlookers.

During their tour of The Eden Project, a moment captured on video showcased Camilla, 77, using her fingers to gently tap her husband, 78, on the arm while he was engrossed in conversation with a staff member.

Despite her initial taps going unnoticed by the King, Camilla was determined to draw his focus away from the discussion. Persistently, she continued her gentle tapping before gradually turning him around to reveal an impressive commemorative cake.

The Queen pointed out a stunning street-party Victoria sponge, crafted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the site. A mildly bewildered Charles glanced around before bursting into laughter, clearly amused by the situation.

This endearing and relatable exchange between the royal couple, who have been married for over two decades, was warmly received by royal fans. Many described it as a charming example of their marital dynamic, affectionately referring to it as part of the “marriage playbook.”

The ‘cute’ and ‘relatable’ moment between the King and Queen, who have been married more than 20 years, delighted royal fans, who fondly described the interaction as a central part of the ‘marriage playbook’.

Taking to X to express their delight at the footage, one commenter said: ‘We RARELY see this kind of physical intimacy between them. We can see their chemistry in their eyes but this is precious!

‘The way she slides up beside him and gives him a little nudge and he turns right around is the cutest interaction I’ve seen between them.’

Meanwhile, another royal fan added: ‘My first thought was that Camilla has trouble getting her husband’s attention like the rest of us do.’

‘Typical husband and wife stuff, so cute,’ noted another.

Both Charles and Camilla, formerly the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, were welcomed for a tour of the Eden Project yesterday to learn about its innovative work and goals for the future.

Armed with a sword given by Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, the royal couple giggled as they sliced the commemorative cake at a slightly wonky angle after touring parts of the Cornish ecological centre that opened in 2001.

As they were shown around the Eden Project, Charles, who has visited the site a number of times, said: ‘I remember when I first came here there was nothing – amazing how it’s developed and grown.’

As the pair arrived, they were welcomed by pupils who sang from nearby Luxulyan School and sought to learn more about the Eden Project’s world-famous biomes and the centre’s role in the community.

There was laughter when they first arrived at the landmark Millennium initiative that transformed a clay pit with massive geodesic biomes featuring plant life from around the world to highlight humanity’s reliance on nature.

The King’s state limousine made a wrong turn on the sprawling site and disappeared before doubling back, and Charles quipped as he stepped from the vehicle: ‘Now you see us, now you don’t.’

During their visit, the King and Queen viewed a section of the 100-metre new marble run and spoke with gardeners and members of staff to learn about the project’s wildflower habitat restoration.

Their Majesties were even given specially crafted ‘wooden’ marbles to send down the run and later take home with them, with quick-witted Charles making a humorous joke: ‘That’s one way of losing your marbles.’

The royals also joined a celebratory lunch where they met with local volunteers who are involved in the upcoming Big Lunch and Big Help Out weekend running from June 5 to June 8.

Later that day, during a visit to the Market House in St Austell town centre, the King had a go at pulling a pint of the alcohol-free Proper Job 0.5% ale.

Taking to X to express their delight at the footage, one commenter said: 'We RARELY see this kind of physical intimacy between them. We can see their chemistry in their eyes but this is precious!'

Shortly before holding up his effort to the cameras and taking a sip, the King and Queen reunited, and Camilla was seen informing her husband: ‘We’ve come from the other direction. I was told I must catch up with you.’

The royal couple then travelled to St Austell and met local community groups in the Holy Trinity Church.

While Charles met teenagers and adults from the Young People Cornwall organisation and faith leaders, Camilla chatted with school children, staff and volunteers from the town’s library.

As reception age children from Mount Charles Primary School in St Austell sang Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star to her, Camilla watched on fondly and shared in their joyful clapping.

Charles and Camilla then walked a short distance to the Grade II-listed Market House to hear about regeneration plans for the building and local area.

Afterwards, they went outside to meet some of the hundreds of well-wishers who had lined Market Hill to catch a glimpse of the couple.

Yesterday was certainly not the first time that both Charles and Camilla have paid visit to the historic Eden Project, with Camilla previously accepting a generous card and gift from the centre ahead of her 72nd birthday in 2019.

Meanwhile, in 2021, the late Queen Elizabeth carried out a rare joint engagement with Camilla and Kate, now Princess of Wales, where she used a ceremonial sword to cut a cake.

The three then most-senior royal women attended the event in celebration of The Big Lunch, which formed part of the late Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations in 2022.

In a humorous clip that delighted royal fans around the globe, The Queen was presented with a large cake and was handed a sword by Edward Bolitho, the Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall, to cut it.

When told by an aide that there was a conventional knife available, the Queen replied: ‘I know there is, this is more unusual’.

Camilla, then the Duchess of Cornwall commented: ‘That’s slicing through’ before assisting with the final part of cutting the cake – which was loudly applauded by those at the event.

After handing the ceremonial sword back, the Queen used a knife to cut a second slice of cake and remarked: ‘That looks very good.’
