Dramatic body-camera footage appears to show former England soccer star Raheem Sterling with laughing gas canisters on his lap moments after crashing his $360,000 Lamborghini Urus.
Sterling, who earned 82 caps for England, pleaded guilty in court Tuesday to dangerous driving and possession of nitrous oxide, according to The Sun. The footage was released after the hearing.
In the video, officers speak with the former Chelsea player after he was reportedly seen driving erratically while holding an inflated white balloon in southern England ahead of the rush-hour collision in May.
Sterling is shown sitting in the passenger seat of the wrecked Urus, appearing dazed as several large canisters rest across his lap. “You can put that down, mate,” one officer tells him.
Police later discovered at least six canisters inside the Lamborghini. The crash destroyed one of the vehicle’s tires.
The soccer star was instructed to provide his name and address after an officer declined to allow him to make a phone call.
As officers read him his rights, the former Manchester City and Liverpool player was told to stop “tensing up.”
“Put your arm behind your back,” the officer then ordered.
Before the crash, Sterling had reportedly been seen with an inflated white balloon while driving unpredictably through southern England during the morning rush, The Sun reported.
He allegedly weaved between traffic on the motorway before leaving the road and striking a gate in a lay-by.
Sterling could receive a prison sentence of up to two years after admitting the charges. He also declined to provide a specimen.
The player is currently without a club after being released by Dutch side Feyenoord at the end of last season.
