Carmine Agnello, the grandson of late Gambino crime boss John Gotti, married shortly before reporting to federal prison—despite his bride previously accusing him of choking her, according to reports.
Agnello, 40, surrendered on Aug. 10 to begin serving a 15-month sentence for a $1 million COVID-19 relief fraud scheme. His attorney told Newsday that he married Ariana Puran two days earlier.
The notorious mobster’s grandson had originally been scheduled to report to prison on June 2. A judge granted him a two-month delay after Agnello said he planned to donate a kidney to his seriously ill mother, Victoria Gotti, known publicly as the “mob princess.”
The transplant surgery, which federal prosecutors argued could have been carried out while he was incarcerated, ultimately did not take place, according to reports.
Agnello was charged with assault on June 4 after prosecutors alleged that he choked and slapped Puran at his East Norwich home during a jealous confrontation involving a reported affair.
Puran later described the incident to reporters as a “regular couple’s argument.” Victoria Gotti, however, criticized her future daughter-in-law after the arrest, calling her “a rat” for contacting police.
Court records indicate that the assault case remains pending in state court.
Agnello, a nephew of the so-called Teflon Don, is now serving federal prison time after pleading guilty to wire fraud in 2024. He admitted using his auto parts business to obtain more than $1 million in COVID relief funds, including approximately $420,000 invested in a cryptocurrency company that later failed.
He is serving the sentence at FCI Fairton in New Jersey and is expected to be released in August.
Agnello appeared alongside his mother on the reality television series “Growing Up Gotti.”
