STOCKHOLM – On Thursday, the Nobel Prize in literature will be declared, adding a new name to the prestigious group of winners that features icons like Ernest Hemingway, Toni Morrison, and Kazuo Ishiguro.
The Swedish Academy’s Nobel committee has handed out the literature prize 117 times to 121 individuals. The prior year’s award went to South Korean writer Han Kang, recognized for her work that the committee noted “addresses historical traumas and highlights the delicacy of the human experience.”
The literature prize is the fourth to be announced this week, following the 2025 Nobels in medicine, physics and chemistry.
The Nobel Peace Prize recipient will be revealed on Friday. Despite U.S. President Donald Trump recently expressing at the United Nations, “everyone says that I should get the Nobel Peace Prize,” he remains an unlikely candidate.
The final Nobel, the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, is to be announced on Monday.
These Nobel Prize award events take place on December 10, marking the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s passing in 1896. Nobel, a prosperous Swedish industrialist and the creator of dynamite, established these awards.
Each prize carries an award of 11 million Swedish kronor (nearly $1.2 million), and the winners also receive an 18-carat gold medal and a diploma.
