Trump says 2026 G20 will take place at his Doral resort

On Friday, President Trump announced that the United States would host the 2026 G20 summit at his golf club located near Miami, stirring up more controversy regarding the intersection of his governmental duties and personal business interests.

“Everyone wants the summit here because it’s so close to the airport. It’s the ideal spot and everything about it is stunning,” Trump commented in the Oval Office.

“We don’t plan to profit from this,” he stated. “I believe it will be an exceptionally beautiful event. Doral has always been highly successful. It’s among the top properties in the nation,” he added.

Trump said each country would have its own building on the property.

Trump had previously aimed to hold the 2020 G7 summit at his Doral resort. He changed the venue to Camp David after facing criticism from Democrats, ethical oversight groups, and some members from his own party. Ultimately, the 2020 G7 was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Trump said the G20 agenda would be set by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

“The significance of the G20 is in alignment with the America First policy, which is not about isolation but leadership,” Bessent stated, emphasizing that the event would mark the commencement of Trump’s second term.

Furthermore, Trump announced he would skip this year’s G20 in South Africa, citing his conflicts with South African leaders over disputed claims of genocide against white farmers, a notion rejected by South Africa’s president. Instead, Vice President JD Vance will represent in his stead.
