WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump on Friday threatened to put a 25% tariff on Apple products unless iPhones are manufactured in the United States.

The threat delivered via social media could significantly raise iPhone prices, possibly impacting sales and profits of one of America’s top tech firms. This company now joins the ranks of Amazon, Walmart, and other major businesses as they come under scrutiny from the White House, attempting to tackle the uncertainty and inflationary pressures triggered by Trump’s import taxes.

“I informed Tim Cook of Apple a long time ago that I expect iPhones sold in the United States to be manufactured domestically, rather than in India or elsewhere,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “If that doesn’t happen, Apple must pay the U.S. a tariff of at least 25%.”

In response to Trump’s tariffs on China, Apple, led by CEO Tim Cook, was contemplating moving iPhone production to India to restructure supply chains. This plan has been a persistent source of annoyance for the U.S. president, who reiterated the issue during his recent Middle East trip.
