G.A./S.C () — On Saturday evening, President Trump addressed the nation both in person and online, announcing that U.S. military aircraft had successfully targeted and destroyed three nuclear facilities in Iran.

This marks the first direct assault by the U.S. on Iran, significantly intensifying the ongoing tension between Iran and Israel. Despite this aggressive move, President Trump emphasized a desire for peace.

Georgia and South Carolina lawmakers are standing divided on what the president has claimed to be a decisive military victory.

Georgia’s U.S. Senator, Jon Ossoff, praised the courage and dedication of the deployed troops while criticizing the administration for the lack of transparency concerning the operations.

In a released statement Ossoff said, “I pray for the safety of U.S. military servicemembers deployed around the world and express my admiration for their courage and professionalism.

“Congress must be promptly and fully briefed on tonight’s operation and consulted on the Administration’s strategy.”

South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn agreed. In a social media statement, Clyburn said, “President Trump’s unilateral decision to attack Iran without Congressional approval is unconstitutional and unwise. This move, a rash sequel to his withdrawal from the nuclear deal, puts our nation, our troops and innocents at grave risk.

He continued, “Trump promised to be a peacemaker and vowed to avoid plunging the U.S. into more wars in the Middle East. This attack is inconsistent with his promise to the American people.

Preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon is a noble pursuit, but I join my colleagues in demanding immediate details from the Administration on this operation and in urging all sides to pull back from the brink of a full-scale war.”

Both Georgia Governor Brian Kemp and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster stood with the president’s decision. They both agreed that Iran should never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

McMaster released in a social media statement saying, President Trump’s decisive action tonight demonstrating peace through strength ensures the safety of our nation and our allies like Israel. We stand with our troops and our allies and are proud to have the greatest military in the World. God Bless America!”

Kemp also released a social media statement.“America can never allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. Thank you to President Trump, our service members and intelligence personnel and administration officials who conducted this successful operation.”

Georgia’s District 1 Representative Buddy Carter also took to social media in support of President Trump.

In response to President Trump’s social media post, Carter said, “I support President Trump. Peace through strength! Thank you to the brave troops who defended us and our ally, Israel.”
