UPDATE: Deputy in 'Serious, but Stable' Condition after Urbana Crash

UPDATE: (7:09a) – Urbana Police have announced that Lincoln Avenue at Florida Avenue will remain closed until around 11:00a due to a traffic crash investigation currently underway. Drivers are urged to steer clear of the area and take different routes.

UPDATE: (6:28a) – Urbana Police will spearhead the investigation into the crash, as confirmed by Sheriff Heuerman. We have contacted Urbana Police for further details.

UPDATE (6:21a) – According to Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman, the deputy involved in the crash is receiving treatment at a local hospital and is in serious but stable condition. The deputy was responding to a call when her vehicle collided with a tow truck. The tow truck driver is also hospitalized, though their condition remains unconfirmed.

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) – A Champaign County Sheriff’s Deputy vehicle has been involved in a crash in Champaign County early Thursday morning.

Our WCIA 3 Crew on the scene reports that the intersection of Lincoln and Florida is currently shut down for investigation. Motorists will need to seek alternative routes.

It appears a tow truck was also involved.

We are waiting for more information on the condition of those involved and the cause of the crash.
