Fire is west of DeLand
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Crews in Volusia County are battling a brush fire that has scorched nearly 4,000 acres on U.S. Forest Service land.
Known as the Rookery Fire, the blaze is burning within the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge.
The affected area lies south of Lake Woodruff, just west of DeLand.
According to the U.S. Forest Service wildfire map, the fire has spread across roughly 3,700 acres.
At this time, no buildings are considered to be under immediate threat, though smoke from the fire continues to impact the area.
Officials say dry, drought-like conditions, along with lightning storms that moved through over the weekend, contributed to sparking the fires.
Fire officials are asking that you do not call for emergency help unless you see active flames.
