Watch live: House GOP leaders give remarks with DOGE cuts, Russian sanctions in mind

House Republican leaders will brief reporters Tuesday morning following its closed-door meeting, as their counterparts in the Senate work to push through President Trump’s rescissions package that could make some Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) funding cuts permanent.

Their remarks also come a day after Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) signaled openness to supporting increased sanctions on Russia a bipartisan effort in the upper chamber and its allies over the ongoing war in Ukraine. President Trump on Monday threatened to raise tariffs on Moscow if a ceasefire isn’t reached within “about 50 days.”

It also follows turmoil within the Trump administration surrounding its handling of files related to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Despite criticism, Johnson said Monday that he trusts Attorney General Pam Bondi and the White House to “make the right decision” regarding the files.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
