DARIEN, Wis. (WFRV) A woman from southern Wisconsin, who stated she was eating Taco Bell while driving, rear-ended a police squad car on I-43 Tuesday night, causing a deputy to be hospitalized.

A release from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office states that one of its squad cars was rear-ended around 11:10 p.m. on June 24 while a deputy was northbound on I-43 near Hwy X in Darien.

The deputy noticed a vehicle approaching from behind him at a “high rate of speed.” The deputy was reportedly in the right lane, going roughly 60 mph.

When the approaching vehicle continued to get closer, the deputy tried to accelerate; however, the vehicle ended up crashing into the back of the squad car.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 41-year-old woman from Geneva. The woman reportedly admitted to eating Taco Bell while she was driving and “wasn’t paying attention.”

It was reported that the woman showed no signs of impairment and denied using alcohol or drugs.

The deputy was hospitalized with minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash remains active.
