A former student of Utah Valley University and witness to the assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk shared how the outdoor venue of the shooting was not considered a secure location.

Brandon Russon recounted on “Now” that upon entering the Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, he remarked to his friend that “this would be a terrible place to be if a shooting took place.”

“There’s so many vantage points for a person to get up on a roof or something like that,” Russon continued.

The event occurred in the university’s quad, an open-air courtyard. Russon’s fears about the location align with other eyewitness accounts regarding security concerns.

“Anyone could simply enter. It was probably the least secure place on campus, with many entrances for anyone to walk in,” commented another witness to local channel KTVX.

Shooter still at large

Following the shooting Wednesday, police detained and released two suspects, later confirming that the shooter is still at large.

Russon expressed how “devastated” he feels that justice has not yet been achieved but remains hopeful “in the capabilities of the FBI and local sheriff’s department to locate the perpetrator.”

Russon went home to his wife and kids after the shooting “extremely worried” about the shooter still being at large.

Russon believes that finding the person who shot Kirk will “give some closure to Charlie’s family and to the nation as a whole.”

“He is such an intelligent man who believed so deeply … in his faith, and that’s what he died preaching,” Russon said.

Federal investigators have released images of a “person of interest” connected to Kirk’s fatal shooting, and the FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to a suspect’s arrest.
