JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) —A woman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a fatal 2022 overdose in Johnson City.

Lisa Garland admitted to committing second-degree murder in connection with Timothy Kuykendall’s death on May 9, 2025, as reported by the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

“This death resulted from distribution of crack-cocaine that was laced with fentanyl,” the district attorney’s office stated in a news release.

Kuykendall was 24 at the time of his death in September 2022.

The plea deal also addressed a separate incident from May 2022, where Garland was discovered in possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, buprenorphine, and a handgun, according to the release.

At 52, Garland received a 28-year sentence. She is required to serve 18 years in prison with no parole, and the remaining 10 years she will serve on supervised release at 85% of the term.

Garland was one of multiple people charged in Kuykendall’s death. Three other people were charged with second-degree murder after his fatal overdose.
