After a year away from the beach, it’s finally nearing “almost paradise” time! However, Bachelor in Paradise host Jesse Palmer, bartender Wells Adams, and Paradise Relations head Hannah Brown want to reassure Bachelor Nation that Season 10 will be different from anything they’ve seen from the franchise before.
To begin with, instead of its usual Mexico beach location, Paradise is moving to Costa Rica, where the contestants will enjoy air conditioning at the Azura Beach Resort. The show will feature exciting new challenges and twists meant to test chemistry and raise the stakes. For the first time ever, two generations will be seeking love in Paradise, with Golden Bachelor and Golden Bachelorette alumni joining the cast of Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants. And that’s just the beginning of the Season 10 shake-up…
“There are so many new things, you don’t really know what to expect,” Palmer told Decider at a Bachelor in Paradise event in New York on July 2. “[Wells, Hannah, and I] spent a lot of time together behind the scenes wondering what would happen next, because we were discovering things as everyone else was. So it was really exciting and fun for us. We spent a lot of time in the control room watching everything unfold and would meet at my palapa for drinks afterward to digest everything we just witnessed. There’s a lot of love, a lot of drama, some craziness—and we’re like, ‘You know it’s bad when we need cocktails to process it.’ Or I should say, ‘You know it’s really good!'”
Ahead of Bachelor in Paradise‘s milestone tenth season, premiering July 7 on ABC, Palmer, Adams, and Brown teased what fans can expect from the new iteration of the spin-off, including Golden energy, body shots, Dale Moss’ impact, and more.
Bachelor Nation missed you on the beach last year when Bachelor in Paradise was on hiatus. How you think the new version of Paradise will make it stand out against the competition?
WELLS ADAMS: Yeah, there’s a lot of shows out there that are ripping off Paradise, right? I was sad that Paradise didn’t come back last year, just because I love filming the show. I’m biased, but I think it’s the best of all of the Bachelor Nation shows. I think it’s the most fun. And this new iteration is gonna look a lot different. It’s gonna feel a lot different. We’re gonna try some things that we’ve never tried before, but I’ve seen a good amount of it, and I think that’s everyone’s really gonna like it.
JESSE PALMER: I think it’s going to be really exciting and really fresh as well. There’s so much new stuff happening in Costa Rica, which I thought was the perfect backdrop for this season. Having the Golden cast was amazing. It brought so much to the show. And then having Hannah, who’s just incredible, she brings tremendous value to our cast and was so much fun to work with.
Hannah, you were a fan-favorite Bachelorette lead, you visited Paradise in Season 9 for a bonfire and some tea-spilling. What made you want to return to the franchise in more permanent capacity in your Paradise Relations role?
HANNAH BROWN: I have so much to thank Bachelor Nation for. I wouldn’t be able to do the things that I’m doing now, and have all the opportunities that I’ve had, without the support of where I got my start. This just seemed like a really great time for me to be able to come back in some capacity with the franchise, because now I have a lot of wisdom. I’m in a healthy relationship that I really got healthy for because I had gone through all the things that I had gone through on-screen. So I thought it was a really, almost redemptive, healing thing to be able to come back and be that voice that I wish I would have had. Having that female presence in Paradise I think is so awesome and important, and I’m glad that it gets to be me. Men have a great perspective on things, but sometimes you need to be able to talk to a woman about about what to do and what not to do in a relationship — somebody who’s been there and done that. It just felt like it all came together at the perfect time and it was such a fun experience.
There are a lot of new twists this seasons, but one of the biggest is that the Golden Guys and Golden Gals coming to the beach in Episode 3. What surprised you most about their time on the show and watching these two generations simultaneously searching for love?
BROWN: I, like many, fell in love with the Goldens on their respective seasons of Golden Bachelor and Golden Bachelorette. My fiancé and I literally cried over that show and I haven’t been brought to tears from TV in a while. Their outlook outlook on life, the wisdom that they have… they bring this energy that is so infectious and really livens up the younger cast as well. They are fully enjoying being in the moment and really looking for love and whatever this experience has for them.
ADAMS: I was a little apprehensive, which I think Bachelor Nation feels, about the Goldens coming. But I couldn’t have been more wrong about it. I was a little nervous, because it’s hot. It’s long days, and I don’t want to kill anybody. But I’m not lying when I say that the Goldens brought so much more energy than the youngs did. They injected the show with so much chutzpah this yeah. God bless the Goldens.
PALMER: Oh yeah, the number one thing that surprised me was the energy they brought. The Goldens showed up and they turned up quick. I think they got there at like 10:15 in the morning. They were doing body shots off each other like 10:19 a.m. in the pool in front of everybody. So part of the greatness of the Goldens is they do not care. They’ve lived life. They know who they are, and they’re not afraid to just be themselves. They set the tone very fast.
Jesse, you’ve been doing this for a while now and had the chance to reunite with so many familiar faces in Season 10, but one of the most buzz-worthy non-Golden cast members is Dale Moss. What was it like witnessing his return to the franchise?
PALMER: Yes! He was one of the people I was most excited to meet, because I didn’t host his season like everybody else. And we didn’t see so much of Dale and Clare [Crawley], because they were done only a few episodes in. But obviously I was curious to find out more about him. I know he’s a fellow football player. I knew him and I would have a lot in common. So I was really excited to see what kind of impact he would have at the beach, and I think it’s safe to say he had a pretty big impact.
Wells, you and your wife Sarah Hyland are one of Bachelor Nation’s most iconic couples. Is she excited to watch the new season as a fan of the franchise?
ADAMS: Oh yeah, Sarah is a Bachelor Nation stan. She loves it. She’s so excited for the show, but she also knows everything that happens because I come home from bartending and I tell her everything. [Laughs] So I think for her, she’s excited about the Goldens being there and excited about all the twists and turns.
Hannah, I know you’re a huge Swiftie, so if you had to pick three Taylor Swift songs to define Bachelor in Paradise Season 10, what are they?
BROWN: Oh, first one’s easy! “Cruel Summer!” Oh my gosh, I can do this. [Laughs] There’s such a Rolodex. I wish I had my phone. Obviously “Love Story.” And what’s that song? [Singing Taylor Swift lyrics] “IS IT OVER NOW?!”
Oh interesting. That’s a solid lineup. Ahead of Bachelor in Paradise Monday, what else should Bachelor Nation expect from Season 10?
ADAMS: If you think you know Bachelor in Paradise, you have no idea. Everything’s about to change, for better and for worse.
BROWN: Expect the unexpected. There’s going to be twists and turns every episode, so it’s the Bachelor in Paradise that we love, but with a little extra fun.
PALMER: There’s so many new things, you don’t really know what to expect. But a lot of stuff you’ve never seen before. Wells and I were talking about this a little bit earlier off camera. We both spent a lot of time together behind the scenes wondering what was gonna happen next, because we were finding out as everybody else was finding out. So it was really exciting and fun for us. Wells, Hannah, and I got to spend a lot of time in the control room together watching everything unfold. We would meet at my palapa and have drinks after to digest everything that we just saw. There’s a lot of love, there’s a lot of drama, there’s some crazy — and we’re like, “You know it’s bad when, when we need cocktails to try and digest it.” Or I should say, “You know it’s really good!” So I’m excited for people at home to see.
