SCRIPPS RANCH —
A 19-year-old man was struck and killed Sunday morning after he walked into traffic on north Interstate 15 in the Scripps Ranch area, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The incident was reported about 5:35 a.m. when someone saw the man walking along the right shoulder of the freeway near Carroll Canyon Road, CHP Officer Salvador Castro said.
Soon after, the man walked into oncoming traffic and was struck by a white Freightliner semi-truck. He died before he could be taken to a hospital, Castro said. The man’s name has not been released.
The driver of the semi remained at the scene and spoke with officers, Castro said. The right lane of the freeway was closed for about two and a half hours while the crash was investigated.
A toxicology test will help determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the incident.
