A tragic discovery has brought a somber conclusion to the search for a Long Island teen who vanished in January after departing his elite school for New York City. The body of Thomas Medlin was found in the waters of Upper New York Bay, near Brooklyn’s Red Hook area.

The Suffolk County Police Department confirmed the grim find on Saturday, with a positive identification made by Thursday, according to a report by the Daily Voice.

Medlin, just 15 years old, was last captured on surveillance footage striding across the walkway of the Manhattan Bridge around 7:06 p.m. on January 9, as detailed by CrimeOnline. His cellphone registered its final activity three minutes later, shortly before a nearby camera recorded a disturbance in the water below.

He was never seen exiting the bridge.

Earlier that day, Medlin left school and boarded a train bound for the city. His family speculated he might have arranged to meet someone from the online gaming world of Roblox. However, investigators later clarified that there was no link between the platform and his disappearance, as reported by the Daily Voice.

Before his fateful walk over the Manhattan Bridge, Medlin was sighted at Grand Central Station around 5:30 p.m., embarking on a journey across the East River, a distance of roughly three miles.
