Three police officers were killed two more wounded while serving a warrant in Pennsylvania Wednesday afternoon.

The shooter is also dead, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris said at a news conference.

The two wounded officers are in critical but stable condition, Paris said.

“This kind of violence isn’t acceptable,” remarked Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. “As a society, we must do better. We need to support people who believe that wielding a gun, using a weapon, is the solution to conflicts. We must improve our approach to mental health. It’s imperative that we protect those in need to prevent such tragedies from occurring.”

WellSpan York hospital said that it was treating two people connected with the shooting, WHP reported.

York County Public Information Officer Ted Czech noted that initial reports from North Codorus Township were received soon after 2 p.m., involving officers from the Northern York County Regional Police Department and the York County Sheriff’s Office in the incident.

Paris said that more information would be released later by the district attorney’s office.

Witness Dave Miller told WGAL that he was driving home when he had to make way for police.

“I glanced to the right and noticed police in the barn seemingly searching for someone,” he told the station. “Then I heard gunfire and observed individuals on the ground.”

Miller said he heard about 30 shots.

“It was just continuous,” he said. “Lots of shots, more than what I could count.”

Schools in the area were shut down and residents told to shelter in place, but those orders were later lifted.
