A North Carolina teenager who was shot at a sleepover by another guest is unlikely to survive, his family said in a GoFundMe post.

Jeremiah Gonzalez, 16, was the victim of a shooting during the early morning hours on Sunday, and police say it was 20-year-old Yosue Ramos who pulled the trigger. According to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, Ramos allegedly brought two firearms with him to the home where his 21-year-old friend and his teenage brother lived. The two brothers were hosting a sleepover, and Ramos and Gonzalez were both guests.

According to the affidavit, the older friend was playing video games while his brother and Gonzalez were laying on a bed nearby. The teenage brother told police that Ramos got one of his two guns from a dresser, pointed it at Gonzalez, and “shot him.”

Gonzalez was hit in the right temple and right upper arm, according to police. He was taken to Carolina Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. According to a GoFundMe post started for his family, medical staff told the family that the boy was not going to survive.

Police said Ramos fled as the teenage brother called 911 to report the shooting. His older brother tried to render aid to Gonzalez. When the teenage brother was interviewed by police, he told them that Ramos “frequently points unloaded firearms at them and pulls the trigger.”

Ramos allegedly left the weapon, a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun, at the scene. After investigating the weapon, police apparently determined that it was stolen.

Police tracked down the SUV that Ramos used to leave and arrested him. Ramos was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a stolen weapon. He is currently in the county jail where he is being held on $100,000 bond.

Ramos’ next court date is Oct. 7.
