Body camera video shows the startling moment Orlando police rushed into an IHOP and arrested an accused attacker who appeared to keep drinking his coffee as officers closed in.
Jovaughn Nathan Matthie was taken into custody Monday in Orlando, Florida, after authorities said he stabbed an Uber driver who declined to give him a ride because no trip had been requested through the app.
The dramatic footage shows officers entering the IHOP near East Marks Street and Kenilworth Terrace after responding to reports of a stabbing.
Once inside, police confronted Matthie at a booth, drew their weapons and repeatedly ordered him to get down on the floor.
Matthie, however, appeared remarkably calm. Still seated, he told officers “one moment” before lifting his steaming cup and taking another sip.
“No, right now!” one officer shouted in response as the tense arrest unfolded.
Matthie then took another drink from the mug before a second officer barked another command: “Get on the ground, lay on your stomach, do it now.”
The video then shows Matthie finally complying, raising his hands before lowering himself face-down onto the restaurant floor as police moved to arrest him.

‘Arms out like an airplane,’ one of the arresting officers is heard yelling.
Another officer, holding back a barking K9, warned Matthie to follow commands or risk having the dog released on him.
After the tense encounter, officers successfully placed the alleged stabber in handcuffs and escorted him out of the IHOP.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WESH 2, Matthie entered the Uber and requested a ride to a location in downtown Orlando.
Matthie then allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened to stab the driver in the heart, according to the arrest affidavit.
The victim suffered a stab wound to the right side of his body and multiple cuts to his hand, the Orlando Police Department said.
Matthie fled the scene but was found shortly afterward inside a nearby IHOP, according to police. A knife was discovered in his pocket after he was detained, they added.
The accused stabber is facing a charge of attempted second-degree murder with a weapon. During his first court appearance, Matthie declined a court-appointed public defender.
The judge scheduled a determination-of-counsel hearing for next week. He is currently being held without bond.
The victim’s identity and current condition remain unknown, as the investigation is ongoing.

In a social media statement, OPD said: ‘Officers responded to the area of East Marks Street and Kenilworth Terrace after receiving reports of a stabbing.
‘Officers learned that a suspect stabbed a rideshare driver who refused to provide a ride without a request through the rideshare app.
‘Following the stabbing, the suspect, identified as Jovaughn Nathan Matthie, fled the scene and was quickly located a short time later inside a nearby restaurant, where officers took him into custody. Matthie was arrested and is facing Attempted Murder charges.
‘To protect the integrity of the investigation and ensure the facts are thoroughly established, we are unable to provide additional information at this time,’ the statement concluded.
