Liverpool have a huge task ahead of them if they want to keep their Champions League hopes alive after Real Madrid tore them apart at Anfield.
Holders Real, who beat Liverpool in last year’s final in Paris, became the first team in Europe to score five goals at Anfield, even though Liverpool scored two goals first.
Darwin Nunez’s brilliant flick put Liverpool ahead after only four minutes. Ten minutes later, Mohamed Salah took advantage of a mistake by Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to put Liverpool ahead by two goals.
Liverpool’s fans were angry that they were wrongly blamed for the chaos at last season’s final. They held up a flag that said “UEFA LIARS” and booed loudly during the Champions League anthem to show their anger. Soon, their loud celebrations were put to an end in a very clear way.

In the 21st minute, Vinicius Junior scored a great goal. Then, Alisson, the Liverpool goalkeeper, copied Courtois by hacking a clearance straight at the Brazilian. He held his head in pain as the ball went behind him and into the net in front of a stunned Kop.
It changed the whole feel of the game. Two minutes after the break, Real went ahead when Eder Militao headed in a free kick from Luka Modric.
Then, Real showed how better they were when Karim Benzema’s shot hit Joe Gomez and went in. The French striker added a fifth goal after more great work by the ageless Modric.
Liverpool have made remarkable comebacks before, but it would be truly unique if they could turn this one around at the Bernabeu.
