Liverpool’s season has taken a dramatic downturn, with midfielder Curtis Jones candidly acknowledging that the team is in a dire situation. Jones’s remarks come in the wake of a crushing 4-1 defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven at Anfield, exacerbating the club’s troubling form. Despite the mounting pressure, head coach Arne Slot remains steadfast, assuring that concerns about his role are not his primary focus.

Amidst this turmoil, Liverpool’s coach is actively engaging with the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, as they collectively seek solutions to the current challenges. The commitment from the leadership to rectify the situation is apparent, yet the road to recovery seems steep.

In an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE, Jones expressed his frustration and helplessness, stating, “I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. It’s just unacceptable.” The midfielder’s candid admission highlights the emotional toll the situation is taking on the players.

Jones further shared, “I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.” His comments reflect the deep connection and passion he shares with the club, as he added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

‘It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.

‘In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period like this with results like these.

‘But at the end of the day, we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.

‘We’re going to try and get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the world.

‘But right now, we’re in the s*** and it needs to change.’

After Jones gave a separate interview to US broadcaster CBS, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher claimed he would rather have seen Mohamed Salah face the media following the defeat.

‘Curtis Jones is a passionate player, he’s hurting right now and given an interview that’s going to go everywhere,’ Carragher said.

‘I’d love to have seen Mo Salah speaking there, rather than Curtis Jones coming out.

‘When he says “we need put a tackle in, we need to get closer to the ball”… who’s stopping you? The only thing someone can’t stop you doing is running. No one can stop you tackling, running and pressing. Don’t tell us you’re not doing it, just do it.’

Arne Slot said he was 'feeling safe' and has 'a lot of support from above' amid the poor run

Arne Slot said he was ‘feeling safe’ and has ‘a lot of support from above’ amid the poor run

Slot said: I am feeling safe, I am okay, I have got a lot of support from above. It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.

‘I am ok with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.’

Liverpool had been aiming to bounce back from consecutive 3-0 defeats, suffered at the hands of Man City and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Slot’s side, however, fell behind in the sixth minute at Anfield after Virgil van Dijk’s bizarre handball gifted the visitors a penalty.

Veteran winger Ivan Perisic converted from the spot, but Liverpool levelled 10 minutes later through Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Reds endured a nightmare second half with Guus Til restoring PSV’s lead, before substitute Couhaib Driouech scored a late double to secure a 4-1 victory for the Dutch side.

Liverpool, who have lost nine of their last 12 matches in all competitions, dropped out of the top eight in the league phase following the defeat.

The Reds will face Inter Milan, Marseille and Qarabag in their final matches of the league phase.
