Nancy Guthrie's neighborhood on edge amid masked thief sighting

Last week, a wave of unease swept through Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona neighborhood following the latest brazen act of theft. Residents were left rattled after a masked individual was caught stealing from a front porch.

Surveillance footage from a Ring doorbell camera, as reported by KVOA, captured a gray Ford F-150 rolling up to a residence in the Catalina Foothills just before 11 p.m. on April 29. The video reveals a man, concealed behind gloves, a face mask, and a baseball cap, exiting the truck and making his way to the front of the home. There, he brazenly loaded several potted cacti into the vehicle’s bed.

The homeowner, stunned by the audacity of the act, shared the video on the Ring app. The footage quickly spread among neighbors, a community already on edge due to increased police activity after Nancy Guthrie, 84, vanished from her home on February 1.

“It’s someone trespassing on your property late at night, uninvited,” commented Jeff Lamie, reflecting on the unsettling nature of the incident. “It might seem minor, but a crime is a crime, and it’s certainly unsettling.”

‘It is someone walking on your property late at night, uninvited,’ Jeff Lamie said of the recent footage.

‘It might be a small crime, but committing a crime … it is disturbing.’

The brazen theft comes as local and federal authorities continue to search for any signs of Nancy, the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie.

There is no indication that the two cases are connected.

But disturbing Nest doorbell camera footage from Nancy’s $1 million home showed an armed, masked figure wearing black latex gloves tampering with the doorbell camera the night of her disappearance.

The Catalina Foothills has been on edge since Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, vanished on February 1

Nancy was last seen entering her $1 million home on the evening of January 31 following a dinner with her daughter, Annie, and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni.

The next morning, she was reported missing after failing to attend a virtual church service with friends.

Throughout the course of the investigation, which stretched into a third consecutive month without any answers on Friday, the Guthrie family has been receiving ransom notes asking for Bitcoin in exchange for information about Nancy’s whereabouts.

Many came through news outlet TMZ, which claimed it received a new one as Savannah returned to the Today Show last month.

The tip said their offer to ‘deliver them on a silver platter’ for one bitcoin still stands, TMZ reported.

Not too long after the outlet discussed the new ransom note live on air, they received a second letter that claimed to have seen Nancy alive.

‘I saw her alive with them in the state of Sonora, Mexico,’ it read, according to the outlet.

However, in the first note the sender reportedly said, ‘she is dead.’

The outlet forwarded the letter to the FBI, who are skeptical about whether it is legitimate as the bitcoin address has received no deposit since it was created in February.

‘It’s unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since the 11th of February for a bitcoin but I am disregarded as a scam,’ the note read.

‘They are free and the case is frozen but the egos remain hot when it comes to me Arrogance at its finest.’

The sender offered information for half a bitcoin, with the other half to be sent over as public interest grows.

They also tried to clear themselves of any suspicion by stating they had been out of the US for five years and had nothing to do with the  ‘horrific crime,’ TMZ reported.

‘I just want what’s fair and to live peacefully with enough to start my life again quietly without having to join a witness protection program,’ the letter claimed.

The disturbing letter came as Savannah was welcomed back on air, after spending two months in Arizona during the search.

As she made her way outside, alongside her morning show co-hosts, to Rockefeller Plaza around 8.30am ET Monday, she was greeted by a team of supporters.

Wearing yellow ribbons as a sign of hope and carrying signs of support, Savannah sobbed as she met with those who gathered.

The journalist said: ‘These signs are so beautiful, you guys have been so beautiful. I’ve received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my whole family.

‘We feel it, we feel your prayers,’ she said as she wiped away tears using co-host Al Roker’s handkerchief while locking arms with Jenna Bush Hager.

At one point, she told a supporter, who was seen wearing a T-shirt reading ‘Welcome Home Savannah’, ‘I love you.’

The Daily Mail has reached out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for more information.
