Airbnb hosts in British Columbia, Canada, faced a new setback when they found out guests tampered with an arcade machine, years after another group had damaged their life-sized Monopoly board. This unique stay is offered at Maple Rock Resorts.

David Prescot, the resort’s owner, and his assistant, Julia, were assessing the Monopoly House in Chilliwack, about two hours from Vancouver, when they stumbled upon the arcade machine’s damage. The discovery was captured in a video and shared on their Instagram page.

The video begins with Julia calling to David from one of the resort’s arcade rooms, which is part of their seven-bedroom property.

“Oh my God, I can tell by her voice something is wrong,” David is heard saying as he makes his way to her.

Julia then points out the issue by pulling off the front of the punch machine, revealing that the guests had taped the back of the machine.

David soon realizes the change box is open, and Julia shows him that it has been emptied by removing the box and displaying its emptiness.

The same guests also apparently broke one of the mirrors in the seven-bedroom, five bathroom Monopoly-themed resort, and tried to replace it, Prescot told the Daily Mail.

He said he only noticed when Julia noticed she could no longer reach the mirror, at which point the couple reviewed security footage and saw the guests lugging the new mirror at around 4am one day.

The frustrating incidents came just a few years after the couple were forced to redo their life-sized Monopoly board – one of the main draws of the property.

‘Little kids for some reason are drawn to smashing it,’ Prescot told the Daily Mail, recounting how a group of children that were visiting the property in 2024 were throwing boulders on the board and smashing it with golf clubs – tearing up the epoxy underneath.

The situation then became more dire when rain froze underneath and gusty wind blew the vinyl off even further.

Video posted to Maple Rock Resort’s Instagram then showed pieces of the vinyl flooring torn up over a concrete slab.

‘Oh my God,’ Prescot could be heard saying as he approached the torn-up board, which Julia kicked dejectedly.

‘This is a disaster,’ she tells him, as she lifts up pieces of the broken board and tears more pieces off.

But she remained hopeful as she told Prescot, ‘Maybe we could fix it?’

‘Well, guess what Julia? We are gonna fix it,’ Prescot replied, telling her she is going to have to paint it.

‘It’s impossible,’ Julia shot back. ‘You need to have someone to do this,’ she said. ‘I’m not doing this.’

But sure enough, Prescot was able to fix the life-sized board, with a montage showing workers sanding down the concrete, painting the concrete turquoise and re-applying all of the spaces and the Monopoly logo.

The effort took them weeks, as they had to wait for the weather to improve, and the board required three to four coats of epoxy and ‘you have to do a coat, wait a day, do a coat, wait a day.’

‘So now I have a sign that literally says “No rocks, no sticks, no golf clubs,”‘ Prescot said, as he continues to let people back to the resort, which offers 33 beds, five bathrooms and seven showers, three kitchens, two living rooms, three bars, three patios and two game rooms.

It also features a putting green, a Monopoly hockey shootout, a basketball court, pickleball court, dance floor, sauna, theater room, home gym, poker table, giant Jenga and a rope toss.

Reservations can be made at the company’s website MapleRockResorts.com.
