Alaska incumbent caught spending lavishly hasn't learned yet

An Alaska senator fighting to keep his seat in Congress has been spending freely far from the Last Frontier as he heads into what is expected to be a closely watched general election.

In June, Our News Outlet exclusively revealed Senator Dan Sullivan’s eye-catching campaign expenditures, including a stop at a high-end California resort once featured on The Bachelorette and thousands of dollars charged at restaurants in Washington, DC.

The Republican senator appears to have kept up the pace even after primary pressure eased, having surged well ahead of a long-shot challenger who shared his name, according to a growing stack of Federal Election Commission filings.

Since March 1, Sullivan’s campaign has spent nearly $35,000 at restaurants outside Alaska, including more than $7,000 at Lucille’s Modern Chophouse in Washington, DC.

Lucille’s Modern Chophouse announced its planned expansion into the nation’s capital in October 2024, but the restaurant has not yet opened. Even so, Sullivan’s campaign has recorded more than $13,000 in spending there since September 2025, FEC filings reviewed by Our News Outlet show.

The forthcoming steakhouse is led by acclaimed chef Matt Baker, who earned a Michelin star for Gravitas, his now-closed restaurant that was also based in DC.

Sullivan has also returned to several familiar Washington favorites, including the 116 Club, a private venue popular with DC power brokers, and Bistro Cacao, a French restaurant that ranks among his most visited spots.

The Daily Mail previously reported that Sullivan went to the 116 Club 10 times between January 2025 and March 2026, running up more than $12,000 in charges. During that same period, he visited Bistro Cacao 21 times, with spending there totaling $21,500.

Since March, the father-of-three has spent $3,000 at the private club across three visits, and approximately $6,500 at the French restaurant, where he stopped twice.

He also frequented Jetties Sandwich Shop in DC, which sells reasonably priced subs for around $13 to $17 a piece. He stopped there eight times since March.

The Alaskan also used Beltway Catering and Taste Gourmet for event catering, spending around $3,700 and $6,600, respectively, FEC filings showed.

In fiscal quarter two, which runs from April to July, Sullivan’s campaign, not including the PACs, spent approximately $28,000 on food expenses, which include events.

By comparison, Sullivan’s campaign spent only a mere one-fourth of that in Alaska, coming in at just under $7,000, FEC filings showed.

And it’s not just Sullivan’s main camp who are hungry, but two PACs associated with the senator, Sullivan Victory and True North, have spent more than $10,000 each on food-related expenses since March.

And just like his appetite, Sullivan hasn’t lost his taste for hosting events at luxurious resorts.

Sullivan Victory spent nearly $27,500 on an event at The Phoenician in the ritzy enclave of Scottsdale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix where the average home price is just under $1million and is located more than 3,600 miles from the senator’s home in Anchorage.

Since March, the father-of-three has spent $3,000 at the 116 Club, a well-known private club in DC. The Daily Mail has previously reported that Sullivan visited the 116 Club 10 times between January 2025 and March 2026, racking up a bill worth more than $12,000

The gorgeous resort sits at the base of the Camelback Mountains and offers a three-level pool that has private cabanas, an 18-hole golf course, pickleball courts, an athletic club, an on-site steakhouse and a set of private villas, among other amenities.

To stay in the presidential suite at the beginning of October, one would have to pay nearly $5,000 a night, including fees. The cheapest room in the same time frame would cost more than $1,000 with fees included, the resort’s website showed.

Meanwhile, Alaskans may struggle to afford a similar accommodation as they work to fill their gas tanks and pay for groceries.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Alaska is $4.83, as of Thursday, according to AAA. The national average is just over $4.

Sullivan backed President Donald Trump’s war in Iran, which has been blamed on driving up US gas prices across the country.

Alaskans are also paying much more for groceries than those in the Lower 48, with Juneau seeing prices 28.4 percent above the national average in 2025, the Alaska Beacon reported in July.

Anchorage and Fairbanks were around 23 percent above the national average in the same time frame, the outlet reported.

In July, food at home prices nationally rose 2.7 percent in a 12-month period, with fruits and vegetables rising 5.1 percent. Food away from home rose 3.4 percent over the last year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

‘Dan Sullivan will always put himself and his special interest backers above Alaskans,’ Eric Croft, chairman for the Alaska Democratic Party, told Our News Outlet.

‘While Alaskans face record-high costs, Self-Serving Sullivan has been wining and dining at luxurious resorts and the ritziest DC steakhouses. Alaskans deserve better, and now that the truth is out, they’ll vote Sullivan out this November.’

Sullivan has an estimated net worth of $8.5million, according to Quiver Quantitative, which tracks politicians’ trading. Sullivan and his family have at least $4million in publicly available assets, according to his 2025 Senate Financial Disclosure, viewed by Our News Outlet.

He did not disclose any earned income on his 2025 form. He does, however, receive at least $174,000 from his congressional salary.

Sullivan faces Democrat Mary Peltola and fellow Republican Dan J Sullivan, who the senator accused of being a plant candidate to confuse voters, in the general election.

Alaska has open primaries and the top four, regardless of political party, move forward to the November general election.

Peltola garnered nearly 64,000 votes, compared to Sullivan who brought in 57,000. J Sullivan only brought in 2.4 percent of the votes with 3,200 votes.

Peltola dominated in lower population areas, as well as in the capital city of Juneau after garnering more than 50 percent of the vote there. Sullivan pulled ahead in the areas surrounding Fairbanks and Anchorage, but Peltola garnered more votes within the cities.

Sullivan's biggest threat in November is Democrat Mary Peltolta, who ranked first in the open primary on Tuesday, pulling ahead of Sullivan by less than 10,000 votes

The general election takes place on November 3.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Sullivan’s campaign for comment.
