Alesha Dixon has revealed how she has ‘transformed internally’, admitting it feels like she’s lived ‘three different lives’.

The singer, 42, appeared on Angela Scanlon’s Thanks A Million podcast on Tuesday and spoke candidly about how past experiences have shaped her into the person she is today.

Alesha was firm in the fact people should always try to find something to be grateful for – and that there should be a focus on what we have, not what we don’t.

‘I don’t know if it’s just this country, but we’re definitely a pessimistic bunch. And I think that actually, you know, no matter what struggles anyone’s going through, I think you can always find something to be thankful for,’ she remarked.

Admitting that her mantra is maintaining this positive outlook, the popstar, who rose to fame in the early 2000s as a member hip hop trio Mis-Teeq, believes that she has learnt a lot of lessons over the years and is frank about them.

‘I do have things where I think, no, I should have made a better choice. I wish I’d made a better choice, particularly with, like, men, you know. I’m not one of these people that’s like, “oh, it was right at the time”.

‘No, I was an idiot. And also, I guess the only thing I could be thankful for is that I’m in a place now in a relationship with somebody who I love.

‘And I don’t think I could be in the healthy relationship I’m in now had I not been through a couple of s****y ones in the past that really shaped me,’ Alesha revealed.

The mother-of-two is a huge advocate for self-love and wanted to ensure she had ‘repaired any sort of toxicity’ going on in herself before seeking long-lasting romance.

‘There’s no way I could have trapped somebody else into my life that had those qualities if I wasn’t bringing those to the table myself. And that was a really big lesson to learn, actually.

‘So in a way, there is an element of forgiveness towards myself for making some bad choices when I was younger, because actually I wasn’t in a healthy state to attract what I necessarily needed at that time.’

The presenter also believes self-love is at the heart of offloading stress and recommends ‘getting out with nature’ or doing something physical to feel good.

‘I remember Oprah Winfrey saying once, if you can’t find five minutes to lock yourself in a bathroom and be alone with your own thoughts, you’re doing yourself a disservice because it’s whether it’s going for a walk or allowing yourself,’ Alesha said.

The Britain’s Got Talent Judge also divulged to Angela how ‘blessed’ she is to have the life she has.

‘I cannot believe that the girl that came from a small town and took the biggest risk of her life by leaving college and joining a girl group, I can’t believe that it actually paid off.

‘Like, I’m so thankful for my life in that respect and the fact that my life choices and taking a risk against all the odds actually paid off,’ she gushed.

She further detailed how people should listen to a hypothetical ‘voice’, after she was approached twice in one day about kickstarting her career following a phone call she had been terrified to make at 18.

‘I realised that the minute you, whether it’s make a phone call or an enquiry, send an email, physically take yourself out of your environment and into a new one.

‘Then the universe listens and responds. So I learnt that lesson quite early on.’

Alesha’s mum was born a Christian, something which she admitted she rebelled against due to confusion.

But as she grew up, she became more willing to having deep conversations regarding God and Christianity – and now considers herself a spiritual person.

‘Having that knowledge and just knowing that that [religion] was something I could tap into really, really helped assist in me sort of getting to the place that I’m at now, which is why I’d like to think my mind is in a very healthy space, because 20 years ago, as I said, I was a different person.

‘So I said sometimes I feel like I’ve lived three different lives because I don’t actually recognise who I was back then, because there’s been so much transformation internally.’
