In Texas, a woman has been charged with driving under the influence after allegedly crashing her vehicle into a roadside pole, resulting in injuries to her six children.

Brittany Winston, 31, is facing a total of 14 charges in connection with the accident that occurred over the weekend, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office as reported by Law&Crime. Her charges include two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle, six counts of causing injury to a child, and six counts of aggravated assault leading to serious bodily harm.

Winston is currently being held with a bond set at $600,000.

The incident took place on Friday around 1:40 p.m., when Winston was reportedly driving her Ford Explorer with her six children on board. According to an incident report referenced by the San Antonio Express-News, the SUV was traveling at high speed along Binz-Engleman Road on San Antonio’s eastern side when it veered off the road and collided with a pole.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered the SUV, which was “heavily damaged,” with several injured children both inside and outside the vehicle, ranging in age from 2 to 12. Winston and her children were subsequently taken to a local hospital.

As per the authorities, as of Monday, an 11-year-old girl remains in critical condition. Fortunately, Winston and the other children did not sustain life-threatening injuries and have since been discharged from the hospital. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the crash.

“Forensic data later confirmed the vehicle was speeding over 20 mph in a 45 mph zone, and no occupants were wearing seat belts,” the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said. It was then that investigators learned Winston reportedly showed signs of being intoxicated.

Hospital staff reported that Winston’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit and she tested positive for controlled substances, according to the local paper, though it is unclear which substances.

Winston is scheduled to appear in court on the charges on Feb. 25.

According to local ABC affiliate KSAT, she was already due in court on Tuesday after driving a vehicle that crashed in November 2024. Her license was also revoked or suspended in 2013 before she got it reinstated.
