In a tragic turn of events, a 43-year-old woman from Florida has been taken into custody in connection with the death of her young son. Diana Cullom now faces a first-degree murder charge following the heartbreaking discovery of her 4-year-old son, Finley Cullom, lifeless at their residence.
The case came to light when a 16-year-old girl returned home from school to find a disturbing scene: her mother, Diana, holding the body of her deceased brother in a bed. Blood was reportedly found throughout the house, prompting the girl to immediately call 911, according to a BayNews9 report.
Initially, authorities suspected that the young boy had been stabbed, given the presence of blood. However, the medical examiner later clarified that Finley had been suffocated, with no stab wounds found on his body. The blood was instead traced back to Diana Cullom, who had inflicted non-life-threatening stab wounds on herself. She was subsequently taken to Bayfront Hospital for medical attention.
At the time of the incident, the children’s father was not at home. Detectives contacted him, urging him to return to the scene. A note was discovered during the investigation, though the police have not disclosed its contents.
As WTVT reported, Diana Cullom was in stable condition by Tuesday evening. Following her release from the hospital, she was booked into jail on Wednesday morning, facing the grave charge of murder.
